About Dooars Adventure

We are a Northeast India travel company. We plan road journeys across Arunachal Pradesh, the Dooars, North Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim — and we arrange the hotels, vehicles and permits that make them work.

What we do

Tours built around the route, not the brochure

Dooars Adventure arranges tour packages, custom itineraries, hotel bookings, transport and sightseeing across Northeast India. Our strongest ground is the western Arunachal circuit — Bhalukpong, Dirang, Tawang, Bomdila and Shergaon — where we plan trips most often and know how the driving days actually behave in each season.

Alongside that we plan trips in the Dooars and North Bengal, where the tea gardens, river beds and forest reserves suit shorter breaks and families, and in Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim, either on their own or joined onto a longer Northeast route.

Every package we publish shows its full day-by-day itinerary, approximate distances and driving times, overnight stops, meals, and an explicit list of what the price includes and excludes. If something depends on weather, permits or local administration — as high-altitude sightseeing near the border does — we say so on the page rather than leaving you to find out on the day.

Most of our bookings are customised in some way: a slower pace for travellers with children or elders, an extra night where the view is worth it, a different hotel category, or two regions in one trip. Tell us what you are picturing and we will send a written plan with costs before you commit to anything.

Destinations we cover

A short note on each region, and what tends to be worth your time there.

Darjeeling Northbengal

Darjeeling is a town in India's West Bengal state, in the Himalayan foothills. Once a summer resort for the British Raj elite, it remains the terminus of the narrow-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, or “Toy Train,” completed in 1881. It's famed for the distinctive black tea grown on plantations that dot its surrounding slopes. Its backdrop is Mt. Kanchenjunga, among the world’s highest peaks.

Best experiences

  • Tea Gardens , Peace Pagoda

Kalimpong Northbengal

Kalimpong is an east Indian hill town in the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal. Perched on a ridge above the Teesta River, it’s home to colonial-era buildings like MacFarlane Memorial Church, named after a Scottish missionary. South, the hilltop Durpin Monastery, or Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, contains sacred Buddhist scriptures. Deolo Park has landscaped gardens and offers views of the town and surrounding hills.

Dooars West Bengal

The Dooars is the stretch of alluvial plains and foothill forest in northern West Bengal, between the Teesta and the Sankosh rivers. It is a landscape of tea estates, wide braided rivers and reserved forest, with wildlife areas such as Gorumara, Jaldapara and Chapramari nearby. Because it is easy to reach from Siliguri, New Jalpaiguri and Bagdogra, it suits short trips and family holidays as much as longer Northeast itineraries.

Best experiences

  • Forest and grassland safaris in the reserves
  • Tea garden visits and factory walks
  • Riverside evenings on the Murti and Jaldhaka
  • Birdwatching in the foothill forests
  • Short drives up to nearby hill viewpoints

Arunachal Pradesh Northeast India

Arunachal Pradesh covers a very large area of mountain and forest along the eastern Himalaya. Travel here is mostly by road and distances take longer than the map suggests. The western circuit through Bhalukpong, Dirang, Tawang and Bomdila is the most established route for visitors and the one we operate most often. Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter the state; foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit.

Best experiences

  • The western Tawang circuit over Sela Pass
  • Monasteries at Tawang, Dirang and Bomdila
  • High-altitude lakes and border-area viewpoints
  • Orchid centres and waterfalls along the Kameng road
  • Village stays in the West Kameng valleys

Sikkim Northeast India

Sikkim packs a lot into a small area — Gangtok as a base, the monasteries of the east and west districts, and high-altitude lakes reached on day excursions. Many of the higher areas require permits arranged in advance, and road access can change with weather. It combines easily with North Bengal and the Dooars in a single trip.

Best experiences

  • Gangtok and the surrounding monasteries
  • High-altitude lake excursions, permit dependent
  • Kanchenjunga viewpoints on clear mornings
  • Rumtek and Pemayangtse monasteries
  • Mountain drives through the west district

Meghalaya Northeast India

Meghalaya is usually travelled from Guwahati, with Shillong as the main base and onward routes to Cherrapunji, Mawlynnong and Dawki. It is at its most dramatic during and just after the monsoon, when the waterfalls are full, though visibility at viewpoints varies. Cave visits and root bridge walks involve a fair amount of walking and steps.

Best experiences

  • Cherrapunji waterfalls and viewpoints
  • Living root bridge walks
  • Limestone caves near Sohra
  • Dawki river and the Bangladesh border view
  • Shillong markets and lake area

Assam Northeast India

Assam is where most Northeast trips begin, either at Guwahati airport or the railway station. Beyond being a transit point it has plenty of its own: Kaziranga and Manas for wildlife, the tea belt around Jorhat and Dibrugarh, the river island of Majuli, and the temples and riverfront of Guwahati itself.

Best experiences

  • Kaziranga and Manas wildlife areas
  • Brahmaputra riverfront and river cruises
  • Tea estate visits in Upper Assam
  • Majuli river island
  • Kamakhya Temple and Guwahati sightseeing

North Bengal West Bengal

North Bengal covers the hill stations of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong along with the plains and forest belt of the Dooars and the Siliguri corridor. It is the most accessible part of the eastern Himalaya, well connected by Bagdogra airport and New Jalpaiguri station, and works well for shorter trips or as the first or last leg of a longer Northeast itinerary.

Best experiences

  • Darjeeling tea gardens and the toy train
  • Tiger Hill sunrise, weather permitting
  • Kalimpong viewpoints and nurseries
  • Homestays in the Lepcha and Sikkimese villages
  • Onward travel into the Dooars and Sikkim
